Montessori Education Week (February 22-28, 1009) will be celebrated in Chesterton at the Duneland Montessori Academy with a lecture and DVD presentation. The community is invited to hear about Maria Montessori’s scientific and educational philosophy, and experience the materials she designed and inspired.
On Sunday, February 22, from 2:00-3:00 pm, Montessori teachers will present and discuss their favorite hands-on materials used in Montessori Education. Participants will be able to handle and try the materials. An Open House with school tour will precede the lecture from 1:00-2:00 pm. Teachers will be available for questions.
On Saturday, February 28, from 2:00-4:00 pm, the DVD, “Montessori-The Science Behind the Genius” will be shown. In the DVD, Dr. Angeline Lillard, Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia, presents a lively and engaging lecture based on her widely acclaimed book, Montessori – The Science Behind the Genius. Montessori’s theoretical principles, the research that has followed them and how they are implemented in a Montessori classroom are discussed by Dr. Lillard.
All events are free and will take place at the Duneland Montessori Academy, located at 109 W. Porter Ave., Suite B, in Chesterton. For more information, please contact Kimberly Ehn at 219-331-6635.
